A Cycle Tour of South-West France

The Massif Central, the Lot and Dordogne rivers, Gascony and the Pyrénées

Le Cirque du Litor (Haut Pyrénées) What a Road ! What a Ride !

This is a log of a month-long cycle tour in south-west France with my wife in the summer of 1993. I've tried to keep it simple, but the rush of great memories made that difficult. I had been concerned about this trip because it was our first alone - we had always travelled with at least one other couple. Despite spending a month almost every year since 1984 in France, Carol still doesn't speak French. As a result she was going to be stuck for a whole month with no one to talk to except me. It was going to be a serious test for our thirty-year marriage. (We survived!) Remember, we were in our mid-fifties at the time, so our daily distances may not be yours.

The attached map outlines our route.
