I tell people it never rains in the south of France in the summer and that's almost true. In 14 trips of 4 to 5 weeks each I've been rained on about a half-dozen times. This one was a short one. Our stuff is all in plastic bags inside the panniers but it's still better to keep the panniers dry if you can. We've since bought some waterproof covers for the panniers.
